Assignment_4

It’s already week 14 and the trimester is coming to a closure, reflecting upon the first post, the me then seemed to be slightly insensitive.

Reflecting seemed more like a trip down memory lane in which here’s a recap on my first post, I committed to able to confidently speak to a crowd and to be able to be an active listener which to an extent value other’s opinion.

For my first objective I tasked myself in this course, I have made progress in such matters. Given the many opportunities in this course, I was able to present myself more confidently in front of my classmates and being provided with the proper materials, I was able to improve in my public speaking ability. Content such as inducing a “power pose” in which one would not only be perceived as more confident, but also feel more confident in which placebo may play its part. Furthermore, the resource provided in the tutorial group notes also supplemented my growth in the area. An instance would be on introducing the project pitch, it made me able to collect my thoughts more concisely and that strategy also helped me out greatly in other modules likewise.
However, I can’t claim that I have achieved this objective, but I am very certain I made progress, in which isn’t life but a progress from one stage of life to another.

On a brighter note, I can safely confirm that I have achieved my other objective which is being more of an active listener. As you may have recalled from the start of this post, I called the me at the start of the trimester insensitive, well that may be true. How true you may ask, now let us review the progress I have made. Previously at the start of this course I stated, “an issue I face is that I’m not a good listener in topics I’m not interested in” and “I tend to shift my attention elsewhere”, this shows that I wasn’t practicing good EQ and even proper listening. Thanks to the resources on the Daniel Goleman model in emotional intelligence and the lectures provided by Dr Cole, I was able to overcome such barriers and be a more considerate and understanding person.

Furthermore, the skills-on-wheels helped me out on certain aspects on my goals. Such aspects include building on relationships which allowed me to improve my active listening by tackling its fundamental problem which is purpose. It also helped me on my public speaking by modules such as conversing with confidence and present effectively, those helped me out by giving me tips and certain guidelines in which i could adhere by when needed. All in all it assisted me along this journey, but it was the encouragement and company of the class that brought me this far.

This concludes my final official blog entry for this trimester and I hope that I could see you all again in the next, ultimately this has been a fun ride, and I hope that we could all strive with one another to achieve greater heights.

I'm glad that through this course, you gained more confidence as a speaker and also achieved the skills to become a better listener. The skills that you acquired will definitely make you a better communicator. I am sure that you will continue to improve your emotional intelligence, when in doubt just recall the resources that Mr. Cole went through with us. With all the knowledge and skills Mr. Cole has imparted to us, all our classmates will strive to achieve greater heights! Lastly, I am certain that you will succeed in life! All the best!
