Interpersonal conflicts happen everywhere but being so obsessed by it would result in certain detrimental outcomes, however, if managed properly, could result in a beneficial result. Now I am going to tell you a recount on what someone I know very dearly felt in a semester of his university life. Let us call him Jake to avoid any misconceptions. It was at the last leg of the semester when project submission was closing in, his group went for a consultation with their Professor on how they should proceed and any fine-tuning to be done. Interaction between people has always been a staple of communication, for it encompasses where most forms of communication function. People witness such interactions daily, be it intentional or forced upon. One such incident I can call memorable would be during my internship in my Polytechnic days. It was during one of those project meetings in which employees of various hierarchical standing gather to discuss the progress on the project that they are currently tackling. The project manager lays out the requirements and objectives set by the executives, demanding the attention and focus towards himself. Such presence was granted somewhat by a “power-pose” coupled with his stern facial expression and impactful gestures which shows that he’s asserting his dominance. Personally, I feel that communication is necessary in our everyday lives, for without it we would be living in a world in which two of our basic five senses are under-utilised, namely sight and hearing. Now you may be wondering how is sight relevant to communication, and this brings me to one of my strengths in communication, which is in non-verbal communication. Non-verbal communication is further categorized in many forms, such as posture, gestures, body language and my forte facial expression. With facial expression I can get my message across more fluently, by reading the other party’s facial expression whom I’m trying to communicate, I’m able to adjust the intensity of our conversation, by signs such as getting confused to getting more engrossed. Furthermore, other than adjusting the intensity, I’m also able to shift the topic of the discussion if needed, for it may seem too insensitive to breach on specific issues, the other party gets more reserved and may even frown. ...
